Sunday 16th January – walk **** – Along the River Orwell at the Stand to Freston Tower – mainly sunny.

After a hectic week we were not sure what to do after the moderate breeze failed to arrive knocking the foiling on the head, now haven’t been out since 3rd Jan :( The cloudy morning was not very inspiring so exercises then with the sun starting to break through I decided to make a flask for cuppa soup and head over to The Strand by the River Orwell by the bridge just outside Ipswich for lunch. We arrived around 1.30 and got a good parking spot with great views across the river with a lovely blue sky too. Two large flocks of geese, the Greylag in the mud and the Brent grazing in a field behind us. Despite loads of mud there was not a great variety of birds, loads of lapwings, gulls and a few noisy oyster catchers plus the odd small wader with a few swans. Walking options here are limited especially with the Shotley road being very busy but a couple came past who had walked along the beach so after a yummy lunch we set off down river taking pics of the birds on the way, the swan waddling in the mud and feeding in a puddle were best:) It was not too muddy but Mag had her wellies on again so she was fine, passing Stoke Sailing Club and onto the foreshore that leads to Harkstead Tower before returning to the van with my heel starting to play up:( There was a couple of paddle boarders and a few boats on the river, so at least a few managed to get out on the water today! After a top walk we then headed into Ipswich to give Auntie Diane her Birthday present, sadly she was out but hide the present before heading back to Felixstowe. I drove to the dock view point to see the sunset before returning home for the usual cuppa and cake – its been an amazing week and tomorrow is looking sunny all day so perhaps we can get out on the bikes again ?
